For more than 10 years, between August 23 and 30, the International Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners has been held, during which different activities and actions are carried out around the world as a way of showing that anarchists do not forget our imprisoned comrades, but also to coordinate actions against the prison system.
In this context, various individuals have come together for an
anti-prison and solidarity event on August 30th, starting at 4 pm, to
reflect on our solidarity practices. We consider these spaces necessary to sharpen our positions, subjecting our concepts and ideas to self-criticism, identifying and learning from our mistakes, and recognizing our small victories; collectively supporting each other in the struggle to dismantle all prisons. The path of solidarity and support for prisoners and those persecuted is one fraught with
obstacles, sadness, and bitterness. We don’t say this to portray
ourselves as victims; nothing could be further from our intention. We
point this out to better understand the terrain in which we, as
individuals engaged in solidarity, operate, and from there, to continue
nurturing our conviction to stand with our imprisoned comrades in the fight for freedom.
We will be presenting the compilation “We Decided to Stay,” which
includes various texts and reflections from imprisoned comrades and support groups on solidarity and the struggle against imprisonment.
We will provide updated information on the situation of some imprisoned and persecuted comrades: Miguel Peralta Betanzos, Arturo Lugo “Shevek,” and Juan Aliste Vega.
There will be music, food, and drinks.
We hope to see you there!
