Coinciding with the closing of the call, we will screen in La Libre the documentary “COPEL: a story of rebellion and dignity”. A documentary project promoted by some former social prisoners belonging to COPEL, with the aim of bringing to light a truth, to give a voice to all those who saw theirs annihilated. The story of a collective history in which the personal experiences of those who lived from the inside what outside still remains silenced converge.
“From the spontaneous and self-organised mobilisation of social prisoners demanding amnesty for us too, the Coordinadora de Presos En Lucha (COPEL) was born, a horizontal and assembly-based organisation through which we took the floor who had never had it before, managing to challenge the state for more than two years and bringing to light the fundamental injustice and inhumanity of the punitive social machine.
This is their story, told in many voices by some of the people who lived through it, in dialogue with others who are interested in it here and now. The story emerges from a debate and strategic reflection, useful for those who are considering the struggle against prison today.”
