Moscow, 27/08: lecture, disscussion and letter-writing

On Saturday, August 27, an evening in Moscow’s Только Сами (6 Shlomina St.) will be held as part of the International Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners.

Philosopher and historian Peter Ryabov will talk about how and why Anarchist Black Cross groups arose and what they did at the beginning of the 20th century. How resistance continued in the USSR from 1930 to 1985 – people did not want to put up with authoritarianism. How in the 1990s and 2000s, along with the development of the anarchist movement in Russia, anti-repression groups emerged and the ABC tradition was revived.

Activist Ivan Markov will talk about the history of the leftist movement in Crimea 2009-2018, as well as the criminal case against anarchist Yevgeny Karakashev.

During the evening we traditionally plan to write letters to prisoners and free-form discussions over tea.

The lecture portion begins at 5:00 p.m., Ivan’s talk at approximately 6:30 p.m., and the event will last until 9 p.m.
