8:30 pm film screening
The movie (2017) is a South Korean history drama inspired by the story of the two anarchists Pak Yol and Kaneko Fumiko and portrays the protest of activists who fought against the Japanese colonisation of Korea in the early 20th century. The movie shows how the racist authorities treated koreans as second class citizens and how they criminilised leftists. But also it’s about the bond between the two protagonists and
how they used the trial to raise awareness about the Kanto earthquake, which was followed by massacres and mass arrests, mainly of koreans living in Japan. It is a film that shows the illigitamacy of those in power.
The screening will be in Korean and Japanese (original) with English subtitles.
Before the film screening starts there will be people’s kitchen (Küfa) and some words about the history portrayed in the film to give some context.
